Number of Visits

PsyACS operates on a short-term therapy model. In general, the number of visits is based on a limit of 8 sessions. However, the actual number of visits will be determined individually for each patient depending on his or her condition.

Payment for Services

For Rutgers Student's who are currently registered, there are no costs for services that include intake, diagnostic assessment, short-term treatment, referral and psychiatric evaluation and/or medication management.

Please note that students are responsible for the costs of filling their prescriptions and should not expect their medication to be provided by the University.

Insurance Benefits

Students enrolled in the student medical plan offered by the University are eligible for outpatient mental health benefits. Please see your student Health Services Insurance booklet for complete details. Students who are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance plan who wish to use their outpatient mental health benefits for therapy outside of PsyACS must first be assessed and referred by PsyACS.

Referrals

PsyACS offers an initial consultation appointment for the purpose of discussing your concerns and arriving at the best course of action for resolution of your concerns. Sometimes, due to ineligibility for our services, special requirements for care, or other reasons, you and the PsyACS counselor with whom you meet for your initial consultation may decide that a referral to another agency or services provider would be most beneficial. PsyACS staff have information and knowledge about the various services and agencies available in Newark and other nearby cities. In these instances, you will be given several options to pursue.
